The power of art (7): Picasso

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was born in Spain, but lived most of his life in France. His artist career started in 1900, when he left for Paris and studied. He was so poor during this period, that he burned most of his early work just to heat the room he lived in.

Picasso is best known for his painting ‘Guernica’, the depiction of the destruction of the Basque town by German bombers. But Picasso had many styles. His surrealistic sculptures, etchings and prints made him the most popular artist after the Second World War.
